This outdoor theatre celebrated its 60th anniversary at Balboa Park in 2006. Since its inception, the theatre has presented and produced a wide range of productions such as Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, and Crazy Words, Crazy Tunes.
This downtown theatre was originally formed by a street theatre group in 1976. Since then, the theatre has produced numerous shows aimed at exploring different aspects of society including politics, cultural values and spirituality.
This theater specializes in improv comedy. No two nights are ever the same. The shows are also all clean and friendly for audience members of all ages. Colin Mochrie (from Who's Line Is It Anyways?) has even performed in conjunction with this theater. Convention seating ensures that everyone gets a good view of action.
Home to the Balboa Park Puppet Guild, the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater has been giving performances since 1947 when Marie Hitchcock presented the first marionette show. The theater now hosts a variety of shows and events throughout the year.
Located in downtown, the San Diego Civic Theatre is a non-profit, public benefit corporation. The theatre seats about 2,900 guests, is the region’s largest performing arts venue, and puts on shows that include the California Ballet, the San Diego Opera and Broadway San Diego.
Sixth at Penn Theatre brings to the stage a wide variety of original shows as well as those produced by other theatre companies. The theatre also offers a Classic Reading Series throughout the year and is available for rent.
Located in Old Town San Diego, this theatre was constructed in the late 1970s. The facility can host just under 250 patrons and has free parking across the street.
Open in 1935, the Old Globe first played versions of Shakespeare plays and has gone on to produce shows that have transferred onto Broadway. This has included shows such as Two Trains Running, the Full Monty and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
