    The Star Bar is one of the shamelessly gaudy bars in the Gaslamp. Their decorations are bright, strange and beautiful. They obviously serve a great deal of cold beer and even some modest fingerfood-style cuisine.

    Old Town Saloon
    This is a terribly friendly western-style pub where everyone is usually on a first name basis by the end of the evening. They have plenty of photos of John Wayne all over the place and other Western-style decor. This is one of the few bars in Old Town that actually keeps its doors open until 2am.

    The Hole

    Tobacco Rhoda's
    Huge letters spelling out the word "BAR" mark the entrance to this dive bar. It is situated on the lower level of an old beaten-up apartment building. No sissy drinks here. The beer and spirits alone will keep boredom at bay.

    The Alibi
    This place is a seedy, dimly-lit dive bar that received a huge cosmetic make-over. The windowless walls now features limo-style tinted glass which open to the street outside. Smokers no longer hack butts in here, but they're more than welcome to enjoy a breath air on the patio out back. However, patrons should eat before coming as the only snack available are bags of chips.

    Hands down, this is the oldest joint in the Gaslamp quarter--it opened in 1885. They have the original enormous mahogany bar that's been completely restored. There is also two pool tables and a jukebox. The occasional live band also takes the stage here.
